About Tantra Vidya

Tantra Vidya is a free, independent online encyclopedia about the Tantric traditions of India — their history, philosophy, scriptures, practices, sacred sites and teachers. It is published by Dharma Research, a small independent research project, and is written for students, practitioners and curious readers who want reliable information rather than sensationalism.

Popular culture often reduces Tantra to sex or black magic. Our aim is to present the traditions as scholars and the traditions themselves describe them: as sophisticated systems of ritual, meditation and philosophy, including Shaiva, Shakta and Buddhist forms, with their historical development and their diversity.

Editorial Policy

Every article follows the same standards:

• Sources first. Articles are based on published scholarship (for example the work of Alexis Sanderson, David Gordon White, André Padoux, David Kinsley and Hugh Urban) and on translations of primary texts. Each article lists its sources.
• Tradition and history kept separate. We say clearly when something is a traditional belief or attribution and when it is supported by historical evidence.
• No medical claims. Discussions of breathwork, meditation or kundalini are educational. They are not health advice, and we point readers to qualified teachers and medical professionals.
• Respect for living traditions. We do not publish secret initiatory instructions. We note where traditions require initiation (diksha) from a qualified teacher.
• Research tools. We use digital research tools, including AI-assisted drafting and summarising. Content is checked against the listed sources before publication, and we do not publish invented quotations or citations.
• Regular review. Each article shows the date it was last updated. We revise articles as new scholarship appears or when readers report problems.

Corrections

If you find a factual error, a mistranslation or a missing source, please write to axonovatechnologies@gmail.com with the page address and, if possible, a reference. We review every correction request and update the article and its "last updated" date when a change is made.

What We Do Not Do

• We do not offer initiation, paid rituals, spells, remedies or personal spiritual consultations.
• We do not endorse any individual guru, organisation or retreat.
• We do not sell personal data.

Tantra Vidya is free to read. To cover hosting and research costs, the site may show advertising served by Google AdSense. Advertisers have no influence over our articles, and ads are always visually separate from the content.
